The Sretensky Monastery was founded more than 600 years ago, in honour of Moscow’s deliverance from invasion by Tamerlane.
The choir of Moscow Sretensky Monastery is one of the most prominent church-singing ensembles of Russia.
The convent reopened in 1994. This is when a new group of choir singers was formed – the ones who still represent the Russian sacred and secular music worldwide today.
This legendary choir sings with incredible power and expression, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in an impressive display. If you’re in town this weekend, you should, without question, be at Katara to witness them perform a medley of the best songs in a national singing tradition, including Russian, Ukrainian and Cossack folk songs, World War II songs and popular Russian romantic songs.
The ensemble gives concerts at the top halls around the world – from the Carnegie Hall to the National Theater of Costa-Rica.
Guests are advised to get there on time (or well in advance) as the admission is on a first come, first served basis.
Free. Oct 5, 8pm onwards. Katara Amphitheatre, Katara Cultural Village, www.katara.net.
