This was announced at a press conference held at Qatar University, by the National Traffic Safety Committee at the Ministry of Interior and Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center at Qatar University, today. by Dr. Omar Al Ansari, Vice President of Academic Affairs Office at Qatar University, Brig. Muhammad Abdullah Al Maliki, Secretary of National Traffic Safety Committee, Dr Abdulmajeed Hamouda, dean of the Faculty of Applied Engineering, Mr. Alex Hanna, Director of Khatib & Alami Consulting Office, and Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Makki, General Manager, Technolab attended the press conference along with many dignitaries, event sponsors and media persons.
Brig. Muhammad Abdullah Al Maliki said that the International Traffic Safety Conference is a testament to the attention given by the State leadership to road safety, which is one of the fundamental pillars of the progress of the State.
He pointed out the conference aims to introduce the advanced level reached by the State of Qatar in the field of engineering, design and road construction, meet international safety and security standards, and learn about the experiences and efforts of other countries in the field of road safety, and the latest technology of road engineering.
Al-Maliki stressed the importance of the conference in exchanging experiences and sharing with the rest of the world as a practical application of the Sustainable Development Plan 2030 adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, to halve the number of road deaths and injuries by 2020, and Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 in which the United Nations called upon Member States to implement specific measures and procedures to make roads safer.
Dr Abdulmajeed Hamouda, dean of the Faculty of Applied Engineering added that the State of Qatar hosts for the first time a conference of this kind that will raise the status of Qatar Internationally in the field of traffic safety, and the preparation of national institutions concerned with traffic to receive the world event that awaits the world in 2022.
