He said,
“I am proud to be a part of this esteemed academic family, and in becoming a permanent part of this university and this global network of friends. India is one of the oldest civilisations and has a rich and varied heritage.
“India is the land of spiritual bliss. India is the largest democracy and is committed to tolerance, harmony, equality, justice, and the rule of law. India is land of unity in diversity. It has different languages, customs, art and culture.”
Seetharaman continued,
“On account of this, Indian culture has also transcended borders in the form of dance, literature, food, music, festival or cinema. Indian festivals are celebrated globally. The Indian culture has brought the global Indian community closer. Indian youth get empowered by participating in various cultural programmes.
“India today is poised for a giant leap from the ranks of developing countries to developed countries. Our economic growth is robust and we boast of a very high percentage of youth population among the nations of the world. Swami Vivekananda is the perfect role model for the youth of this country and it is under his banner that the Indian youths can safely march towards their cherished goal, holding their head high among the comity of nations.”
Seetharaman said society lives in a world that is technologically-driven, a world that is interconnected and increasingly interdependent.
Migration of people and ideas has happened between the countries giving the momentum to the concept of ‘single world’, he said.
“I believe in the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, meaning the whole world is a one family. Global citizenship encourages this philosophy. Global citizenship is the need of the hour in removing hatred and in promoting the message of love, peace, and prosperity across the globe, which will contribute to sustainable development,” he said.
Seetharaman is a recipient of six doctorates from leading universities in the world, including a PhD in Global Governance by European University, PhD in Green Banking and Sustainability from Sri Sri University, and a PhD from Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management.
